New at the GiftBox: A Bookish Christmas Worth Opening Early

Christmas in Australia has its own kind of magic. The days are long, the evenings stretch out on the verandah, and somewhere between the pavlova and the last-minute wrapping paper, we are all still looking for a gift that feels personal - not just another thing in a bag.

That is the part we love most.

At Simply GiftBoxes & Bookish Bundles, we are a family-run studio in the Hawkesbury region of New South Wales. I am Kylie, and I still hand-select every item that goes into a box. No warehouse algorithm. No “close enough” filler. Just curated stationery, bookish treats, and little surprises chosen so the person opening them actually smiles.

This season we have new products on the table, a Christmas Collection ready to shop, and plenty of room for you to tell us the theme, colours, or “please no cats” notes that make a box feel like it was made for one person.

If you are shopping for a reader, a stationery collector, a secret Santa, or yourself (yes, that counts), here is what is great for presents - and how to turn it into an easy Christmas gift.

Why a bookish box works so well at Christmas

A good Christmas gift does three things: it feels considered, it is a pleasure to open, and it lasts longer than the afternoon.

Bookish bundles do all three.

They are practical without being dull - journals, pens, bookmarks, desk bits, little accessories you actually use in January. They are aesthetic, which matters when you are gifting someone who already has “enough stuff.” And because every box is packed to order from current stock, no two unboxings are identical. That surprise is the whole point.

Customers keep telling us the same thing: they loved the volume of little treasures, the colour story, and the fact that it arrived looking like someone had thought about them. That is the brief we work to, whether the box is heading to a best friend in Brisbane or sitting under your own tree.

What is new at the GiftBox

A few pieces have been earning extra “oohs” this season. If you are building a Christmas list, start here.

Australian Edition A5 Reading Journal — $25

This is our in-house designed reading journal: space to track books, jot notes on favourite authors and storylines, and keep a year’s reading in one place. It is the heart of our larger Avid Reader bundles, and it also stands alone as a stocking-stuffer or a “just because you finished 40 books this year” gift.

If you know a reader who dog-ears receipts and loses TBR lists in Notes, this is the one.

Pen Obsession Desk Bundle — from $26.95

This is one of our newest releases, and it is unashamedly for the person whose pencil case is a personality. A typical box includes a pen case, bling-style pens, gel pens, metallic inks, a designer pen, sticky notes, correction tape, a fidget clicker, and a handful of bookmarks.

Designs and shades vary from box to box - we pack from what is in stock - but we match your colour choice so it still feels like their desk, not a random stationery drawer.

Under $30, high joy-per-dollar, and very easy to wrap in a Christmas colour story if you leave a note at checkout.

Avid Reader: Signature Bookish Bundle — $69.95

For the person who takes reading seriously. This one includes the Australian reading journal plus 20+ hand-selected stationery treats, desk accessories, bookmarks, clips, stickers, pens, and bonus bits aligned to the theme or colour you choose.

It is our “I actually thought about you” Christmas gift: enough to feel generous, coordinated enough to look beautiful on a desk in January.

Dragon Chest Desk Bundles — $49.95

Part of our exclusive desk-bundle series. Think a mini timber-style chest packed with dragon keyrings, sword bookmarks, a mini hardcover notebook, magnetic and card bookmarks, pens, a themed pencil case, sketchbook, and more - all pulled into one colour story (Beautiful Black, Fiery Red, Bookish Blue, depending on which edition is live).

If your person lives in fantasy shelves, D&D nights, or “one more chapter of the dragon book,” this is the box that looks like loot.

Purrfect Cat-Lovers Limited Bundle — $89.95

A bigger, limited bundle: 25+ kitty-themed pieces, coordinated, and packed with the kind of variety that makes unboxing last. These limited boxes do not sit around forever, so if you have a cat-person on the list, do not wait until mid-December.

We also have smaller cat and capybara options if you want the theme without the full limited box.

The Christmas Collection (and how to make any box feel festive)

You will find a Christmas Collection on the shop, alongside New at the GiftBox, Themed Bundles, Mystery Corner, Dragons, Wizards & Myths, Special Occasions, Bookish Accessories, and Gifts Under $30.

Here is the useful secret: almost any bundle can become a Christmas gift.

Leave a note at checkout. Tell us:

  • festive colours - classic red and green, gold and cream, icy white and silver, deep forest and burgundy
  • a theme - “cosy Christmas reading nook,” “secret Santa for a colleague who loves coffee and crime,” “no glitter,” “all dragons please”
  • what to skip - allergies to a motif, “they already have enough pink,” “no novelty food”

We already pack mystery boxes to a colour and theme when you ask. Christmas is just another brief. The contents stay bookish and useful; the palette and extras can lean seasonal.

That is how you get a gift that looks like December without being a novelty that dies on Boxing Day.

Gift ideas by person (so you can stop overthinking)

For the avid reader

Start with the Signature Bookish Bundle or Chapter & Verse. Add the reading journal if they do not already have one. A Blind Date with a Book (a wrapped surprise title plus goodies) is a brilliant extra if you know their genre but want the reveal under the tree.

For the stationery collector

Pen Obsession, Petite Bookish Desk Bundle, Reading is my Jam, or Just One More Chapter. These are the people who will use every pen. Colour-match their current desk if you know it.

For the fantasy and dragon person

Dragon Chest, Dragon’s Hoard in Bookish Blue, For Him - Dragon Edition, or anything from Dragons, Wizards & Myths. Ask for gold, black, or deep red if you want it to feel like a Christmas hoard.

For the cat person (or the capybara person)

Purrfect Cat-Lovers if you want to go all in. Smaller kitty and capybara bundles if you want cute without the larger price. These photograph beautifully and land well with teens and grown-ups alike.

For the coffee-and-crime friend

Agatha Christie’s Poirot Coffee Bundle, Coffee Lovers, Coffee & Sarcasm, or Coffee Stop Desk Bundle. Easy to theme in deep greens, cream, and gold for Christmas.

For Secret Santa or “I need something good under $30”

Shop Gifts Under $30: the reading journal, Pen Obsession, smaller desk bundles, book bags/jackets, and mystery scoops. Free shipping kicks in over $50, so two smaller gifts in one order is often the sweet spot.

For you

Treat-yourself Christmas is allowed. Order the colour you have been hovering over, add a festive note, and open it on a quiet afternoon in December with a cold drink and a stack of books. That is a valid tradition.

Mystery, scoops, and “I want to be surprised”

Not everyone wants a fixed bundle. That is why Mystery Corner exists.

  • Mystery Scoop - you choose how many scoops; each bead stands for an item from the lucky-scoop list. Packed to order.
  • Mystery Bag - a pre-packed random group of items.
  • Curated Bundle - a set theme and item count, with designs and colours drawn from current stock.
  • Blind Date with a Book - a wrapped book chosen from your reading interests, plus surprise goodies.

Mystery gifts are excellent Christmas presents because the unboxing is the event. If you want it festive, say so in the order notes. That way, we can lean into the palette without turning the whole box into tinsel.

A few practical notes before you hit “add to cart”

Packed to order. Boxes are assembled when you buy them, not sitting in a pile for months. Dispatch is typically 1–5 days depending on how busy the season gets. Christmas weeks get full. Order earlier than you think you need to.

Free shipping Australia-wide over $50. Under that, shipping is calculated at checkout. If you are hovering near the threshold, a journal, a book bag, or a second small bundle usually gets you there.

Images are a guide. Every box is individually curated. The quality and the number of items stay true to the listing; exact designs and shades can change with stock. That is also why leaving a colour or “please avoid X” note helps.

Limited and exclusive pieces move. Autumn one-offs, dragon chests, and limited cat boxes are not endless. If you have fallen for one, grab it rather than hoping it will still be there in December.

We are local and reachable. Questions, a tricky recipient, or a last-minute theme idea - email team@simplygiftboxes.com.au or use the number on the Contact page. It really does come through to us.

How to order a Christmas box in three steps

  1. Choose the bundle that matches the person (or start in Mystery Corner if you want the surprise to do the work).
  2. Pick a colour where the listing offers one - or choose mystery pick and let us build the palette.
  3. Write a short checkout note: Christmas colours, theme, anything to include or skip, and whether it is a gift. Then leave the rest to us.

That is the whole system. Fun, affordable, full of surprises - which is what we said we wanted this shop to be.

A small Christmas from our place to yours

We started this business because gifting should feel like a treat, not a chore. The best boxes we pack are the ones where someone writes, “She is obsessed with all the items,” or “We spent the afternoon opening and sharing.” That is the standard.

If you are making a list this year, start with what is new, wander through the Christmas Collection, and do not be shy about asking for a festive theme. We will pack it with the same care we give every other box - just with a little more gold ribbon energy.

Shop new arrivals, themed bundles, and the Christmas Collection at simplygiftboxes.com.au.

Happy reading, happy wrapping, and a very bookish Christmas from the Hawkesbury.
